Jeremy Whiston, MA

Professional Counselor Associate

people I work with:

  • adult women, men, and non-binary folks

  • LGBTQ+ folks

  • people who are new or old to therapy

  • people who need a little help (or a lot)

  • people who want to make a change

In some ways, my clients are similar in that they often have long-term struggles with anxiety, depression, or trauma — struggles that are affecting their ability to function, and impacting their relationships. In other ways, all of my clients are incredibly unique, and therefore, the work we do is unique to them and their needs on that particular day. If you choose to work with me, we will spend time developing a deep understanding of your circumstances, and then, together, we will make a plan that you feel good about.

individual

therapy

My strengths as a therapist are that I'm a regular person, I don't make judgements. I don't pretend to have any fancy magic powers; what I do have is a high capacity for understanding, for listening, as well as a few techniques that can help folks understand themselves better, and get some relief. Often, there are patterns, connections, or solutions in plain sight that become visible just by explaining our situation to another person who is paying attention, and cares. Ultimately, the biggest factor in whether our work together is successful is if we are a good fit. The best way to know if we will be a good fit is for us to schedule a free consultation.

my

approach

Originally from Nova Scotia, I moved to Portland in 2013. I love it here. I’ve been studying and working in mental health since 2020, and I bring a lot of enthusiasm with me into this field. When not working, I like to go to estate sales, ride bikes, sing karaoke, and write fiction.
